The "Invitation Cup" Competition had to be one of the most enjoyable days

of snooker I have had. I got to see some great snooker and also the chance

to meet so many new people and a few pupils I had not seen since my

coaching first started.

There were some great frames played and everyone I spoke to had

something to tell me about a game they had enjoyed watching.

There were quite a few black ball games on the day and it was

disappointing to see a few players getting beaten by such a narrow margin.

It can be a cruel game at times as you know.

One of the highlights for the audience was watching for the first time,

the youngest player involved in the competition,

Nathan Davenport from Corwen.  Semi Finalist Nathan is only 10 years old

and gave even the eventual winner of the competition a tough time

in the semi finals.  He is most definitely a player to watch out for

in the future. He plays with a good technique and a lot of determination.

I look forward to inviting him to the next Invitation Cup

along with a a few others who did well on the day.

HIGHEST BREAK ON THE DAY - 25 - Nathan Davenport

The other semi finalist was Dion Owen (below) aged 11 from Llanfair PG.

Another very good player for his age.

He plays in my Anglesey League team and worries quite a few senior players

on the island.

The Runner Up in the competition was Tomos Parry (above)  from Llanberis.

His game has improved such a lot over the last few months

and I was pleased to see him do well in the competition.

The eventual winner of the Invitation Cup was Gareth Williams

from Penmaenmawr.  He is the top junior at the Penmaenmawr club

at the moment having won the clubs junior tournament for the last 3 years.

He played 11 frames of snooker on the day and his good form

seemed to hold right through the competition.  He was given a rough ride

on his way to the final though, having played against Callum Owen of Amlwch,

Rhys Williams of Denbigh and Nathan Davenport of Corwen,

all of whom I thought had a good chance of eventually winning the cup.

Gareth was a very worthy winner on the day. He worked very hard

to get through and this can be admired by all future Invitation Cup winners.

Well done Gareth!!!

This event would not have been possible had it not been for the support

given by the Members and Officials of Penmaenmawr Snooker Club.

The tables were all excellent and enjoyable to play on and all helped

to make the first Invitation Cup Competition the success it was.

Thankyou also to the parents and fellow North Wales club members

who came to give their support to the players.
