The 2008 Invitation Cup  saw 10 players battle it out for the title. 3 Players were invited from Cemaes, 3 from Amlwch, 1 from Holyhead, 1 from Deioniolen, 1 from Llanrug and 1 from Penmaenmawr. 

The draw went really well so it made the competition very open. The one tough draw in the first round was the match between Owen Bracegirdle and Daniel Lowies. Both players playing outstanding at times with Owen coming out on top 3-1. Another close battle in the first round were the matches between Lenny Whitney and Ricky Jones and also Lee Williams against Shaun Daniel, with Ricky and Shaun winning their matches. 

The two Semi Finalists on the day were two new players to the Inviatation cup, Ricky Jones from Amlwch and Gavin Jones from Penmaenmawr. 

The two finalists today Owen Bracegirdle who already has an excellent record in previous Invaitaion Cup Competitions and Iwan Owen from Deioniolen. This was Iwans first visit to an Invitation Cup and was in fine form in the final. Iwan eventually winning the final 2-0. 

 A fine performance from Iwan who didn't lose a frame all day.

The Highest Break on the Day was just 18, 

achieved twice by   Iwan Owen and once by Daniel Lowies. 

Both players were presented with trophies.

The 10 players who took part at the 2008 Event are listed below...

 

Daniel Lowies  Member of the Beach Reds Senior team in the Anglesey Snooker league.  Winner of the Snookerheaven Junior Ranking Event 2007 and already has an excellent record in previous Invitation Cup Competitions. 

 

Lenny Whitney     Captain of the Cemaes B Junior league team. A much improved player over the last 12 months. A very good all round player who can turn his hand to Billiards aswell as snooker. We wish him well for his first visit to the Invitation Cup.

 

Stuart Jones     Captain of the Cemaes A Junior league team. Another succesful season so far in the junior league and has achieved the highest break in the league so far with a break of 24 during the final of the team handicap competition against Llanerchymedd. 

 

Iwan Owen    Member of the Waunfawr Blacks Junior league team, he has won 7 out of 8 league games so far this season. Winner of the Junior Competition in Deiniolen  where he played superbly. Iwan also reached the Semi Finals in the recent Junior Competition in Llanrug. 

 

Shaun Daniel   Member of the Cemaes A Junior league team, he has won 5 out of 7 league games so far this season. Finalist in many Cemaes Snooker Competitions. Shaun helped his team reach the Final of the Junior League's team handicap competition where he put in an excellent performance for his team. We wish him well on his first visit to the Invitation Cup.

 

Owen Bracegirdle  Member of the Llanrug Blacks Junior league team, he has won 6 out of 8 league games this season. Owen has achieved the 2nd highest break in the Caernarfon and District Junior league with a break of 29.  Winner of many Junior Competitions and already has  an excellent record in previous Invitation Cup Competitions. 

 

Lee Williams  Captain of the Amlwch B  Junior league team, he has won all 9 league games this season.  His game has improved a lot over the last 12 months and his dedication to the team and continued success this season has earned him first invite to an Invitation Cup.

 

Gavin Jones   Member of the Penmaenmawr Senior league team. Gavin has improved a lot over the last few months and his dedication to the game  has earned him his first invite to an Invitation Cup.

 

Ricky Jones  Member of the Amlwch B  Junior league team, he has won 7 out of 5 league games so far this season and holds the highest break record so far with a break of 24.  His game has improved a lot over the last 12 months and his dedication to the team and the way he has coped with some close defeats has shown great character and it is this continued determination that has earned him his first invite to an Invitation Cup.

 

Gruffydd Roberts   Captain of the Amlwch A  Junior league team who are currently top of the league again after winning the league last season. Gruffydd played in last years Invitation Cup and has since come second place in the Ranking Event 2007 and also won the Junior league Singles Competition and last seasons Merit.
