This
years Invitation Cup took place on Saturday 14th March.
A
very enjoyable day with many close games. 11 players took
part, travelling from Amlwch, Cemaes, Llanerchymedd &
Llanfair Pg. Seven of the players were playing for the first
time. Two of the new players reached the semi-finals and one
the final. The Penmaenmawr tables were playing well once
again this year and the club has always been a good venue for
the event with a lot of support given from the club official
Richard Jones.
1st
Round Results -
Ryan
Jones bt
Charlie Whitney, Gavin
Jones bt
Kieran Dobson,
Dion
Owen bt Stuart
Jones.
The
first round got the competition off too a good start for all
watching as one of the toughest draws saw Dion Owen play
Stuart Jones. Stuart, having a terrific season, sadly didn't
play at his best and therefore unable to come out on top
against one of Anglesey best juniors, Dion.
Penmaenmawr's Gavin Jones had a good start to the competition,
last year reaching the semi finals. Gavin played very well and
defeated Amlwch's Kieran Dobson who potted very well but
couldn't match Gavin's all round play. The other first
round match was between Charlie Whitney and Ryan Jones.
Charlie had a great start to the first round but Ryan dug in
and caught up to take the first frame and then improved again
to take the second.

Quarter
Final Results -
Ryan
Jones bt
Gavin Jones, Dion
Owen bt
Gruffydd Roberts,
Rhys
Williams bt Gareth
Owen, Nathan Roberts bt
Seimon Jones.
The
Quarter Finals stage and more great matches. Ryan Jones
continued his good form taking a good victory over Gavin
Jones. Gruffydd Roberts from Amlwch took Dion to the Pink in
the first frame of their match and Dion took the confidence
from that first frame victory and won the second frame
comfortably. The match between Rhys Williams from Amlwch and
Gareth Owen of Llanerchymedd was another battle with Rhys
taking victory. The last Quarter Final game was between Nathan
Roberts and Seimon Jones. Both players from the Llanerchymedd
Club, Nathan the in-form player on the day taking both frames
to give him a place in the semi finals.

Semi
Final -
Dion
Owen v Ryan Jones,
Rhys
Williams v
Nathan Roberts
The
Semi Finals stage and Dion had another first frame battle
against Ryan Jones. A blue ball game and one tricky middle
pocket cut gave Dion straightforward pots on the three
remaining colours. Dion raised his game once again,
making a break of 33, the highest of the day on his way to
winning the second frame. The match between Rhys
Williams from Amlwch and Nathan Roberts was another tough
match with Rhys perhaps playing his best match of the day to
take victory.

Final
**
Dion
Owen v Rhys
Williams

The
two finalists on the day, Dion and Rhys, both played well
during the day. Dion continued to play at the same level and
Rhys, unable to play as well as he did in earlier rounds,
found Dion tough opposition. Dion won the two frames fairly
comfortably in the end but Rhys always the great Sportsman was
pleased with his achievements on the day.
